We are talking about the movie David.

These are the questions we are asking:

  • If you had to face a wild animal using only everyday tools you find in your backyard, what animal would scare you the most?
  • Why do you think David picked up 5 smooth stones instead of just 1?
  • In school or on a team, people usually judge who is best based on height, athletic ability, or cool clothes. Why does God care so much more about what’s inside our hearts?
  • The Bible calls David "a man after God’s own heart" (1 Samuel 13:14). It doesn't say David was the most handsome, the strongest, or that he never made mistakes. What do you think it actually means to have a heart that matches God’s heart?
  • After defeating Goliath, David didn’t get an easy life. King Saul became extremely jealous and tried to hunt David down, forcing David to live as a fugitive hiding in dark caves and deserts for years. Have you ever done the right thing, but things still felt unfair, lonely, or hard afterward?
  • Many of the Psalms in the Bible were songs and prayers David wrote while hiding in caves, scared for his life. He didn't use fancy, perfect church words—he cried, told God he was afraid, and asked, "God, where are You?" Does God want us to pretend everything is fine when we pray, or does He want our raw, honest feelings?
  • What is a "giant" that kids your age face right now? (Examples: fear of speaking up, peer pressure, a hard test, feeling left out, or worry about what people think of you)
  • Before David faced Goliath, he practiced courage when nobody was watching by protecting sheep. What is one small way you can practice trusting God this week when no one else is looking?

We are talking about the movie Unsung Hero.

These are the questions we are asking:

  • David’s identity took a hit when he lost his job and had to rake leaves for a living. What is something you secretly tie your self-worth to right now (grades, athletics, looks, social circle)? How would you handle it if that were stripped away?
  • Read Phillipians 4:6-7
    • "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
  • There’s a big difference between saying "I trust God" when things are fine and trusting Him when you have zero dollars and no idea what next week looks like. In Unsung Hero, Helen constantly chooses prayer over panic, while David spirals into anxiety. When real stress hits your life (grades, family finances, future college plans), what is your instinctive default: control and worry, or genuinely surrendering it in prayer?
  • Why is pride often the hardest barrier to asking God—or other people—for help?
  • Helen created "Adventure Beds" to help her children see hope instead of despair. When your family or personal life hits a stressful season, do you tend to isolate and shut down, or do you look for ways to stay grounded in faith?
  • The family had a literal "Prayer Wall" for their daily needs. If you had an honest prayer wall in your bedroom today, what is one impossible situation or worry you would put on an index card?
  • Culture tells us that "success" means followers, wealth, and recognition. In God's kingdom, what does being an "unsung hero" actually look like? Who is an unsung hero in your life who has shaped your faith behind the scenes?

Weekly Challenge

Every week, group members accept a personal challenge to apply what was discussed to their day-to-day lives.

This week:

Identify one fear or "giant" you have this week (like speaking up for someone sitting alone or trying something you're afraid to fail at). Before you do it, say a quick 5-second prayer: "God, You are bigger than this giant." Watch the move DAVID

This week:

Think of one person who faithfully supports you behind the scenes—a parent, grandparent, coach, or quiet friend whose sacrifices often go unnoticed. This week, send them an intentional text or write them a handwritten note thanking them specifically for how they’ve helped carry you through hard moments. Watch the Movie of Unsung Hero.
