ABOUT THE SACRAMENTS
Instituted by Christ,
Entrusted to the Church
The sacraments are the ways Jesus gives us His grace through visible, meaningful actions. He started them Himself and gave them to the Church so we could keep sharing in God’s life. In every sacrament, God uses simple signs—like water, bread, oil, and words—to make His love and power real in our lives.
Baptism
The origin of Christian Baptism is Jesus Himself. Though free from sin, He chose to be baptized by John to show His unity with us and to make the waters holy. Through His command to “baptize all nations,” Jesus gave us the way to die to sin and begin a new life with God.
In Baptism, the Holy Spirit calls us to holiness, guiding us to walk in Christ’s light and grow in His love.

Confirmation
The Holy Spirit was promised by the prophets and fulfilled in Jesus, the Messiah, who was conceived by the Spirit, baptized in the Spirit, and raised by the Spirit. Before His death, Jesus promised to send this same Spirit to His followers.
In Confirmation, our baptismal grace is strengthened, and we are empowered to be witnesses of Christ in our families, communities, and the world. All youth confirmation preparation is offered through Ignation.

Holy Communion
The Sacrament of Holy Communion is the beautiful moment when Catholics receive the gift of Jesus himself in the Eucharist, when bread and wine are transformed into the body and blood of Christ. In addition, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is an opportunity to confess our sins, be forgiven, and heal our relationship with God. We welcome children as they become ready to enter into the preparation process for these two sacraments.

Anointing of the Sick
In this Sacrament, Jesus heals through the priest, bringing forgiveness and sometimes physical recovery. You don’t have to be near death—any serious illness is enough.
Even if your body isn’t healed, the Sacrament gives peace, courage, and strength, helping you face sickness or old age with faith.

Matrimony
From creation to the “wedding feast of the Lamb,” Scripture shows us that man and woman are made for each other. In marriage, a couple reflects Christ’s love for the Church.Marriage is a covenant, not just a contract—a permanent union rooted in love and open to God. Celebrating it in the Church, especially within the Eucharist, strengthens the couple and witnesses God’s love to the community.
Holy Orders
From His conception to His Resurrection, Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit and anointed as our high priest. Today, He continues to serve as our high priest, and through Holy Orders, some are called to share His priesthood in a special way.
Ordination is a call and gift from God. Those who respond say, “Here I am, send me” (Is 6:8), trusting God’s guidance and the Church’s discernment as they step into this ministry.
