This week we are talking about truth.

____________________________________________________________________

  • What is a popular idea that clashes with what Jesus teaches?
  • What is a tangled teaching that might be popular, but isn’t really true? Have you ever seen it tangle you or any of your friends up?
  • Read Ephesians 4:14-15
    • We must no longer be children, tossed to and fro and blown about by every wind of doctrine, by people’s trickery, by their craftiness in deceitful scheming.  But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,
  • What are some “popular thoughts” that sometimes tangle you up? Show the Untangled Teachings actvity supplement for ideas to suggest if needed.
  • What is one of God’s truths that you really need to remember this week?

Sacraments: Prayer

  • How does God’s guidance through the 10 Commandments and Jesus’ teachings of the beatitudes contribute to the pursuit of happiness?
  • The video introduces the concept of “beatitude” as a divine and supernatural form of happiness. How does this differ from natural happiness, and what role does your relationship with Jesus play in experiencing beatitude?
  • How do the beatitudes’ paradoxical promises shed light on the Christian life and provide hope in challenging circumstances?
  •  How do the conditions and results of each beatitude change the way you think about your own actions and attitudes?
  • Why do you think the beatitudes are sometimes overlooked or misunderstood, even by those deeply involved in their faith?
  • Edmund categorizes the temptations to put in the place of God as wealth, pleasure, power, and honor. How can recognizing these help in living out the beatitudes?
  • Reflect on the brainstorming process Edmund undergoes to make the beatitudes practical. How does thinking of ways to live them out in both reactive and proactive ways change how you think about the beatitudes?

This week we are talking about the cross

  • What is the difference between knowing God loves you and actually telling Him that you love Him back?
  • How would your relationship with God change if you viewed Reconciliation as an act of trust rather than a list of failures?
  • Which "knot" or burden in your life is the hardest for you to hand over to someone else?
  • In what ways have you been trying to carry your current stresses alone instead of sharing the weight with Christ?
  • How can a personal struggle or "weakness" in your life actually be reimagined as a unique gift from God?
  • Do you find it more difficult to talk to Jesus as a friend or to sit in silence and listen for His response?
  • When you are overwhelmed by the world, what is one practical way you can "look up" from your own problems to see the needs of others?
  • What is one specific, daily choice you can make to show that you are committed to a relationship with God?

Sacraments: Prayer

  • Why do you think it can be so hard for us to be “poor in spirit” and truly surrender our lives to and depend on God ?•
  • Which of the Beatitudes do you identify most closely with? Why?
  • Which of the Beatitudes is most challenging to you? Why?
  • What does being holy have to do with being happy? How can living the Beatitudes make us happier and more peaceful?
  • What are some important things in life that you think people tend to miss or fail to pay attention to?
  • Why do you think these things are missed or ignored ?
  • How can you keep from falling into that?
  • How can you step up to help the poor in your community?
  • Imagine that you are nearing the end of your life and are given an opportunity to go back and give your younger self some advice.
  • What do you think your future self would say to your present self ?
  • What is the difference between being “a big deal” in the world and being truly great?
  • What daily habits can you adjust so that you will be focused on things that will matter forever instead of getting stuck on temporary things?

This week:

Before bed, identify one "burden" from your day that ended up being a "gift" (like a difficult conversation that led to growth or a busy schedule that showed you your own strength).
