WEEK EIGHT

Service & Leadership

Summary
“But Jesus called them to him and said, ‘Whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant… just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve.’”
Matthew 20:25–28

Following Jesus means serving others with our gifts, not just being a consumer of faith. True leadership in His kingdom is servant leadership—using our strengths and talents to love, help, and uplift others.

Jesus modeled this perfectly: He came not to be served, but to serve, giving His life for many. When we serve, whether in our family, community, or church, we participate in His mission and grow in discipleship.
Discuss
  • How did last week's Practice go?
  • Share highs & lows from the last week?
  • What stood out to you from the talk?
  • Consider the implications of Jesus’ words about Himself: “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” In what ways do these words inspire or challenge you?
  • How can we balance service and prayer? Put another way, how can we balance being with Jesus and doing as Jesus did?
Assess
  • On a scale of 1-10, how important is growing in this topic for you?
  • On a scale of 1-10, how equipped do you feel to live this out on a day to day basis?
Practice
Do one act of service this week for a family member or friend (e.g. do the dishes, run an errand, pay it forward).

You may also consider serving in the context of the church.
  • Buckle up an extra seatbelt and talk to God on your commute
  • Set up an extra table setting at the dinner table
  • Put on headphones but leave them on silent.
